Debates and Group Discussions
Debates and group discussions are integral to the learning experience at Ishan Institute, developing critical thinking, communication skills, and confidence in students.
Debates
A debate is a discussion or structured contest about an issue or a resolution involving two opposing sides bound by agreed rules.
First and second speakers present distinct, non-overlapping arguments supporting their team's contention. Debating functions as teamwork requiring coordinated case preparation and understanding of individual speaker responsibilities.
Debate produces self-confidence, critical thinking, reading, writing and speaking competencies, content area knowledge, organization, and time management.
“The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be victory, but progress.”
Group Discussions
Group discussion (GD) is a comprehensive technique to judge the suitability of an individual. GD assesses the overall personality — thoughts, feelings and behaviour — of an individual in a group.
Group discussions develop communication abilities through idea-sharing, boosting self-confidence in public speaking and encouraging active participation.
